I cannot believe that tomorrow is my son's last day of Third Grade and that it is finally time to start heading to the lake! For those of you who might not know, our family water skis and lives part of the summer in Michigan. I'll share some photos of my son skiing at the end of this post. He's been skiing since he was 3 and loves to tell me how much better he is at it than I am. For a while I had him beat, but I'm pretty sure that isn't going to be the case for very long!
Anyhow! As we have done in years past, we are going to be introducing summer hours and I'll just warn you- they are almost nonexistent. As a parent, I am well aware of how quickly time is flying past and that every year my son seems to need me less and less and that we tend to spend less time together. So for the past 2 summers I have introduced Summer Hours which as a small business owner is a scary concept. I truly struggled with the idea of willingly stepping away from this business that I have spent so many years building. Would I loose clients? Would my clients that have worked with me in the past feel neglected? Is taking 2 months off in the height of wedding season going to kill my career? Will people understand?! And then I had the question pop into my mind that stopped me in my tracks and eased all of my worries.
Will Ben look back and remember me working or will he look back and remember me there.
Done.
So this year, just as in years past, tomorrow starts Studio 1492's Summer Hours. What are they? Basically, if you need me, email. call or text but plan to leave a message and I will get back to you when I'm free. My phone will not be attached to my hip unless I'm using it to take pictures of Ben. We will not be offering any sessions in the month of June or July aside from what is already booked.
I truly appreciate the fact that I have the chance to step away from my job and spend the summer just playing Mom and will never take that for granted. The fact that my clients understand and actually encourage it still blows me away year after year.
I hope you all have a wonderful summer and thank you so much for understanding.
From my family to yours,
Happy Summer!
Now, Hit It!
(I didn't have the images from his first couple of years learning to ski handy but I will share them at a later date because he looks so tiny and adorable behind the boat!)
Please note- this is NOT Ben skiing! This is an amazing barefoot skier that went past our dock just before we went out that morning and I happened to be in the right place at the right time. However, Ben says he will be barefooting very soon!
This was one of the last runs of the year last year. It was FREEZING but he still went!
