Gavin attends Seymour High School and is on the baseball team there. He started his session at his high school which I always think is a great spot for senior photos. We then went downtown and finished at The Coffin (which if you live in Seymour you understand that very strange statement!)

With summer weather very much here I think it's time I share my top tips for keeping cool during a senior session when the thermostat is cranked outside.

1- I tell all of my seniors to pack a cooler with snacks and plenty of water and Gatorade. Senior sessions can take upwards of 3 hours. We don't want anyone getting sick or fainting. I also suggest tossing in those cooling towels so that you can apply them to your neck and wrists between outfits to help cool you down quickly.

2- We take plenty of breaks to hop in cars and cool down and we stick to the shade as much as possible. The light is better in the shade anyhow.

3- If it's over 100 we reschedule. That's too hot for anyone to want to be shooting not to mention the camera gear can start overheating and that's not a fun situation!

4- Make sure your outfits are season appropriate. Avoiding long jeans, coats and heavy dresses in the summer is key to keeping cool when shooting.

5- We start sessions as late as possible to allow as much of the heat to burn off as we can. We also frequently switch sessions to early morning which I know teenagers don't love but it allows us to get photos done before the heat hits and then you have the rest of the day to chill.

What other tips do you think we should include?
